Software Engineer III (Java & JavaScript)

About the role

Do you enjoy designing and developing scalable, high‑performance applications using Java and JavaScript? You will join the Identity & Access Management team that builds and operates a highly available identity platform on AWS ECS and EKS, supporting Elsevier’s global product suite.

Key responsibilities

• Interface with technical personnel to finalize requirements.
• Write and review detailed specifications for moderately complex system components.
• Collaborate with development team members to translate product requirements into software designs.
• Implement coding best practices, conduct code reviews, and follow CI/CD pipelines.
• Operate in Agile or Waterfall environments while engaging key stakeholders.
• Resolve technical issues and keep abreast of emerging technologies.
• Complete bug fixes and maintain system reliability.

Required profile

• Proficiency with data manipulation languages and data modelling principles.
• Experience working with complex data models.
• Strong background in Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, HTML, Node.js, React, XML, SQL, Windows and UNIX.
• Hands‑on experience with identity providers such as Keycloak or Auth0, including realm configuration and OIDC client setup.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, GitHub workflows, and pull‑request collaboration.
• Knowledge of Agile and Waterfall software development methodologies.
• Experience with test‑driven development and code‑coverage best practices.
