Software Engineer – Python/Django (Hybrid, Birmingham)

About the role

We are seeking a mid‑level Software Engineer to join our delivery team in Birmingham. You will work on a digital platform that supports the UK’s Net‑Zero ambition, building and maintaining Python/Django services that power workflow automation, forecasting, analytics and more. The role is hybrid, offering a mix of office collaboration and remote flexibility.

Key responsibilities

• Write, test and maintain high‑quality, secure Python/Django code following engineering standards.
• Participate in feature‑level design discussions and contribute to system architecture under guidance from senior engineers.
• Conduct peer code reviews, apply best practices and help improve code maintainability and performance.
• Deliver tasks from design through development, testing and deployment, providing accurate estimates and flagging blockers.
• Collaborate closely with Product, QA, DevOps, UX/UI and Architecture teams to ensure seamless delivery.
• Mentor junior team members, share knowledge and adopt modern engineering practices.

Required profile

• Mid‑level experience developing Python applications, preferably with Django.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work autonomously within a sprint‑based environment.
• Comfortable participating in design reviews and technical discussions.
• Proactive communicator who can surface risks early and build trust with teammates.
