Specialist Radiographer

About the role

The NHS Lothian Radiology Directorate is seeking a Specialist Radiographer to deliver high‑quality diagnostic imaging across a range of specialised modalities. You will work directly with patients and clinical teams to ensure accurate, timely imaging that supports patient management.

Key responsibilities

• Perform specialist imaging examinations in MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Cardiovascular, Neuro‑angiography and satellite imaging departments.
• Justify and document each radiographic examination in line with clinical guidelines.
• Provide direct patient care and produce high‑quality diagnostic images.
• Supervise, mentor and support junior radiographers to maintain service continuity.
• Adhere to NHS policies on equality, diversity and safe working practices.

Required profile

• Registered radiographer with specialist experience in one or more of the listed imaging modalities.
• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom and a current PVG Scheme membership/record.
• Commitment to professional development and mentoring of junior staff.
• Understanding of NHS standards for patient safety and data protection.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Cardiovascular imaging, Neuro‑angiography and satellite imaging techniques.
• Ability to justify imaging requests and produce high‑quality diagnostic images.
• Supervisory and mentorship capabilities.
