Staff Software Engineer – Agentic Workflows

About the role

Causaly is building the world’s most advanced biomedical knowledge platform. As a Staff Software Engineer you will design, implement and operate the platform that runs long‑running orchestrated workflows in production, enabling scientists to audit evidence at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Workflow orchestration: design and evolve the workflow definition model, including control flow, fan‑out, conditional execution and static validation.
• Durable execution: build the engine that runs workflows with checkpointing, resumption, retry and idempotency guarantees.
• Monitoring, tracing and cost attribution: instrument multi‑service runs to attribute latency and token spend to individual steps.
• LLM integration: manage structured outputs, guardrails, retries and citation integrity across steps.
• Architecture and technical leadership: write design proposals, break large changes into shippable increments and own production results.

Required profile

• Significant backend engineering experience in TypeScript and Node.js.
• Experience building LLM‑backed systems in production and understanding their failure modes.
• Designing and operating distributed systems with correctness under partial failure (idempotency, at‑least‑once delivery, safe retries).
• Solid understanding of relational databases, schema design and safe migrations.
• Clear technical writing and ability to produce actionable design documents.
• Product mindset with data‑driven optimisation.
