Systems Administrator

About the role

As a Systems Administrator you will join Actica’s IT team in Guildford, supporting and developing the company’s technology environment. The role blends hands‑on responsibility with continuous learning, making it suitable for recent graduates and those with prior IT support or systems administration experience.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and support company information systems, providing 1st and 2nd line support and escalating issues as needed.
• Monitor system performance, availability and security, including firewall and gateway policy management.
• Work with IT suppliers and third‑party partners, attend IT meetings and deliver status updates.
• Assist with security alerts and incident response alongside the System Security Officer.
• Support development, testing and rollout of new systems and services.

Required profile

• A background in Computer Science, IT or a related discipline.
• Experience in a Microsoft‑based environment, either commercial or academic.
• Proactive, self‑motivated attitude with strong problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly in a fast‑moving IT environment.

Required skills

• Active Directory and Microsoft 365 (including Azure).
• Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 and Microsoft Exchange 2019.
• Linux (Ubuntu) administration and PowerShell scripting.
• Cisco firewall management, VPN configuration and network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, routing).
• Endpoint management, security incident handling and API integration.
