Technology Director

About the role

Chapman Tate Associates is working exclusively with a leading retailer to appoint a Technology Director. The role sits on the Senior Leadership Team, shaping technology strategy while staying hands‑on with day‑to‑day technical challenges across retail and eCommerce operations.

Key responsibilities

• Define and deliver the overall technology strategy for the business.
• Lead, mentor and develop a team of 13 technology professionals, including software developers, IT staff and an AI engineer.
• Contribute to senior leadership discussions and influence overall business strategy.
• Drive innovation in software development, infrastructure and AI capabilities.
• Oversee the evolution of eCommerce and online retail platforms.
• Collaborate with AI specialists to identify and implement practical AI solutions.
• Ensure reliability, security and stability of on‑premises technology environments.
• Champion best practices in software engineering, architecture and delivery.

Required profile

• Significant experience leading technology functions in a retail or eCommerce context.
• Proven ability to balance strategic vision with hands‑on technical execution.
• Strong track record of building and developing high‑performing technical teams.
• Experience working with AI initiatives and on‑premises infrastructure.

Required skills

• Software development background.
• Experience with AI/ML projects.
• Knowledge of on‑premises infrastructure and cloud concepts.
