Temporary Finance Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented and organised Temporary Finance Assistant to support our finance team during a busy period. The successful candidate will provide hands‑on support across day‑to‑day finance operations and must be confident using Sage accounting software from day one. This role is ideal for someone with previous accounts experience who can quickly integrate into the team, work independently, and manage a busy workload with minimal supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Process purchase invoices and match them to purchase orders using Sage.
• Raise and process sales invoices and credit notes.
• Post and allocate customer receipts.
• Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
• Process supplier payment runs.
• Perform bank reconciliations.
• Assist with credit control and chase overdue payments.
• Support month‑end finance processes including journals, accruals, and pre‑payments.
• Maintain accurate financial records and keep data up‑to‑date in Sage.
• Handle finance queries from suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
• Provide ad‑hoc accounting and administrative support to the finance team.

Required profile

• Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant or similar accounting role.
• Proven hands‑on experience using Sage accounting software within the last two years.
• Proven hands‑on experience using Microsoft Excel, including formulas.
• Strong understanding of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
• Experience with bank reconciliations and invoice processing.
• High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.

What we offer

• Hourly rate of £12.71 per hour plus holiday pay.
• Temporary assignment with immediate start.
• Four‑day work week (Monday to Thursday).
