Trainee Shop Manager – Retail Management Apprenticeship

About the role

Farmfoods is seeking a motivated individual to join our Walthamstow store as a Trainee Shop Manager. This 18‑month programme combines on‑the‑job training with a Level 4 Retail Manager apprenticeship, preparing you to take full responsibility for a shop.

Key responsibilities

• Work alongside an experienced shop manager to learn daily operations.
• Gradually assume ownership of the store, managing staff, stock, and customer service.
• Control key costs such as payroll, shrinkage and waste.
• Ensure health & safety, cash handling, merchandising and presentation standards are met.
• Participate in recruitment, training and performance reviews of team members.

Required profile

• Previous experience leading a team in retail, hospitality or a customer‑facing environment.
• Strong motivation to develop a career in retail management.
• Willingness to work a 45‑hour week across varied shifts.
• Commitment to complete an apprenticeship and associated assessments.

Required skills

• Basic proficiency in maths and English (support provided if needed).

• Starting salary £32,648 – £35,306 per year, with potential increase after 6 months.
