VAT Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced VAT professional to join our growing indirect tax team in London. You will work on complex advisory projects, manage your own client portfolio and help shape the future of our VAT practice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide practical, commercially focused VAT and indirect tax advice to a diverse client base.
• Lead and deliver VAT projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely and budget‑conscious delivery.
• Support clients through HMRC enquiries, disputes, alternative dispute resolution and tribunal matters.
• Advise on the VAT implications of acquisitions, disposals, restructurings and other significant transactions.
• Develop trusted relationships with clients and external intermediaries, identifying opportunities for additional services.
• Contribute to business development activities, including marketing, thought‑leadership content and new opportunity generation.
• Coach, mentor and review the work of junior team members, participating in appraisals and workflow management.
• Stay up‑to‑date with technical developments and regulatory changes in VAT and indirect tax.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering VAT and indirect tax advice to owner‑managed businesses and large corporates.
• Strong client‑facing skills with the ability to build long‑term relationships.
• Demonstrated project management capability, handling multiple engagements simultaneously.
• Leadership potential, including coaching and mentoring junior staff.
• Commercially minded with a focus on delivering practical solutions.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of UK VAT legislation and indirect tax principles.
• Experience handling HMRC disputes and investigations.
• Understanding of VAT implications for corporate transactions and restructurings.
