Welder – Shipbuilding with Shift Allowance

About the role
We are looking for an experienced Welder to join BAE Systems’ shipbuilding team in Glasgow. You will work on the construction of Type 26 frigates, delivering high‑quality welds across carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium while operating on a shift‑based schedule.
Key responsibilities
- Perform MMA, MAG, MIG, FCAW, Submerged Arc and BUG‑O welding on a variety of marine components.
- Produce butt and fillet welds, including ceramic‑tile work within FCAW/MAG processes.
- Carry out self‑verification and non‑destructive examination to ensure compliance with engineering standards.
- Maintain strict health, safety and environmental (SHE) practices, including effective fume‑control measures.
- Collaborate with a team of 6‑12 welders to meet project milestones on the Type 26 programme.
Required profile
- Modern Apprenticeship (Trade Papers) and a relevant mechanical qualification such as SVQ 3 or City & Guilds.
- Proven experience welding carbon‑steel plates 4‑15 mm thick and aluminium using MIG processes.
- Background in maritime, construction or manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated ability to follow risk‑assessment procedures and SHE requirements.
