Head of Communications

About the role

Make UK is seeking an experienced communications leader to head its communications function within the Policy & Public Affairs team. Reporting to the Director of Policy & Public Affairs and working closely with the CEO and senior stakeholders, you will shape the narrative for the UK manufacturing sector and raise the profile of the organisation and its members.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy that supports Make UK’s organisational priorities and policy objectives.
• Lead earned‑media activities, building relationships with national, regional, trade and specialist journalists.
• Draft press releases, opinion pieces, statements and briefing materials for senior leadership.
• Support major advocacy campaigns through strategic communications planning and stakeholder engagement.
• Provide strategic counsel to the CEO, Chair and senior leadership on communications matters.
• Collaborate with Marketing and Digital teams to ensure consistent messaging across paid, owned and earned channels.

Required profile

• Significant experience in senior communications or public affairs roles, preferably within a complex industry or trade association.
• Proven ability to influence public debate and manage high‑profile media relations.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, working with senior executives and external partners.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with a talent for turning complex issues into clear stories.
