Engineering Manager

About the role

An AI startup building a London engineering hub is looking for a founding Engineering Manager. You will lead a team of 6‑10 engineers, work directly with Fortune 500 customers, and shape the technical direction of a live AI platform.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, hire, coach, and evaluate a team of 6‑10 engineers across seniority levels.
• Own delivery of a meaningful product surface within the AI agent platform.
• Ensure operational excellence: incident response, on‑call rotation, code‑review standards, and release engineering.
• Define architecture and provide technical direction for AI/ML components.
• Conduct customer working sessions, defend architecture to executives, and translate enterprise workflows into actionable roadmaps.
• Help shape the broader engineering brand in London through hiring and culture initiatives.

Required profile

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of shipping production systems.
• 2+ years of direct people‑management experience, including hiring and performance management.
• Hands‑on experience delivering LLM‑powered systems (agents, RAG, evaluation infrastructure) in production.
• Strong technical foundation in design reviews, production debugging, and AI/ML architecture.
• Comfortable presenting to enterprise customers and senior executives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
