Senior Communications Officer – NCSC

About the role

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is seeking a Senior Communications Officer to join its external communications team. You will work in a fast‑paced environment, supporting both press office and social‑media functions, and helping shape public conversation around cyber‑security.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver proactive communications announcements and manage emerging media stories.
• Draft press releases, reactive statements and brief journalists on high‑profile cyber incidents.
• Lead the planning and execution of communication strategies for critical national infrastructure protection and state‑led cyber threats.
• Collaborate with internal partners across the organisation and Whitehall to maximise impact and manage risk.
• Participate in a press‑duty rota, including out‑of‑hours coverage, with associated allowances.

Required profile

• Proven experience in communications, public relations or media handling, preferably within a government or security context.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, handle sensitive information and travel to UK sites and occasional international locations.
