Accounts Assistant / Bookkeeper (Hybrid)

About the role

Join a growing manufacturing business in Birmingham City Centre as an Accounts Assistant/Bookkeeper. The position offers flexible hybrid working, with office attendance initially 2‑3 days a week and the possibility to reduce to once a week over time.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain purchase and sales ledgers, processing invoices and ensuring accurate records.
• Perform regular bank reconciliations to keep financial data up to date.
• Support month‑end bookkeeping tasks such as accruals, pre‑payments and routine adjustments.
• Prepare VAT returns and accompanying schedules.
• Assist with payroll runs, including data preparation and uploading.
• Collaborate with the wider finance team to support the monthly reporting cycle.
• Participate in ad‑hoc financial analysis and help improve business processes.

Required profile

• AAT qualification preferred; candidates with equivalent experience will also be considered.
• Proven experience processing purchase and sales ledgers and carrying out bank reconciliations.
• Experience in a fast‑paced SME environment is desirable.
• Manufacturing sector experience is a plus but not essential.
