Accounts Assistant – £30-35k per annum – Birmingham

About the role

The Finance team is looking for an Accounts Assistant to support day‑to‑day accounting operations, maintain accurate financial records and help ensure smooth monthly and annual reporting. This permanent position plays a key part in preserving financial integrity and supporting overall business efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices, match them to purchase orders and delivery notes, and resolve any discrepancies.
• Prepare weekly supplier payment runs and keep supplier records up to date.
• Monitor customer accounts, issue statements and reminders, and maintain aged debtors reports.
• Perform daily bank reconciliations and monitor cash balances across all accounts.
• Assist in preparing short‑term and medium‑term cash‑flow forecasts.
• Support invoice‑financing facilities, including submission, reconciliation and loan‑account tracking.
• Help with monthly accruals, pre‑payments, journal entries and inventory valuation.
• Maintain the fixed‑asset register and reconcile key balance‑sheet accounts.
• Prepare internal reports for sales and operations teams.

Required profile

• Experience handling purchase and sales ledgers, including credit control and supplier payments.
• Ability to reconcile accounts and produce accurate cash‑flow forecasts.
• Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
