Apprentice Operative

About the role

Join Tarmac Trading Limited as an Apprentice Operative at the Washwood Heath site in Birmingham. This apprenticeship offers hands‑on experience in producing essential construction materials while you work towards a Level 2 qualification in Mineral Processing Mobile and Static Plant Operations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate mobile and fixed plant production equipment.
• Carry out basic maintenance and routine inspections.
• Assist in leading ready‑mix operations and ensure site safety.
• Support toolbox talks and safety briefings.
• Manage daily production tasks such as stock ordering, inspections and defect reporting.
• Help manufacture high‑quality material in line with technical standards.
• Contribute to continuous‑improvement and operational performance initiatives.
• Uphold health and safety standards and act as a role model for the team.

Required profile

• Minimum age of 18 years.
• Willingness to work a rotating shift pattern, including day and night shifts.
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in dusty or confined environments.
• Commitment to health and safety and to continuous learning.

Required skills

• Operation of mobile and fixed plant equipment.
• Basic equipment maintenance and inspection.
• Production task management (stock ordering, inspections, defect reporting).
