Assistant Financial Accountant (Hybrid, Birmingham)

About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Financial Accountant to join our global services business in Birmingham. The role offers a supportive culture, a hybrid working pattern and a salary of £35‑40k while providing a solid foundation in a busy finance function.

Key responsibilities

• Support the month‑end close process and prepare balance‑sheet reconciliations using dedicated close software.
• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and ensure balance‑sheet controls are applied, reviewed and signed off.
• Assist the Financial Reporting team with annual financial statements and monthly Group reporting.
• Maintain the fixed‑asset register and perform monthly reconciliations between the ledger and asset records.
• Work with CAPEX owners to prepare capital‑expenditure budgets, depreciation forecasts and monthly variance analysis.
• Contribute to a lease‑accounting transition project, including data analysis and implementation of new processes.
• Partner with financial and non‑financial stakeholders to provide analysis and insight for commercial decisions.
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes and increase automation across the finance function.
• Support external audit activities by preparing schedules and responding to queries.
• Participate in ad‑hoc projects such as accounting for capital projects and cross‑team initiatives.

Required profile

• Actively studying towards ACCA or CIMA qualification.
• Good technical knowledge of accounting standards.
• Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems.
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain financial information clearly.
• Fixed‑asset experience is desirable but not essential.
