Assistant Headteacher

About the role

The school is seeking an experienced SEND leader to join its senior leadership team as Assistant Headteacher. You will shape the pre‑formal pathway for pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties and Autism Spectrum Condition, ensuring a meaningful and personalised curriculum.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the strategic development and implementation of the pre‑formal curriculum.
• Ensure outstanding provision for pupils with SLD and ASC.
• Support and develop teachers, teaching assistants and middle leaders.
• Drive high standards of teaching, learning and assessment across the pathway.
• Monitor pupil progress and guarantee personalised learning outcomes.
• Collaborate with therapists, families and external agencies.
• Contribute to whole‑school leadership and improvement initiatives.
• Promote a culture of inclusion, innovation and excellence.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Significant experience in a SEND setting.
• Strong knowledge of pre‑formal learning, SLD and ASC provision.
• Experience of curriculum development and implementation.
• Proven leadership experience as Assistant Headteacher, SENCO, Phase Leader or equivalent.
• Excellent communication, coaching and leadership skills.
• Commitment to achieving the best outcomes for pupils with complex needs.
