Assistant Manager / Workshop Controller

About the role

We're looking for an Assistant Manager / Workshop Controller to play a key role at Activate Accident Repair Manchester, ensuring repairs are carried out effectively and accurately to achieve the highest possible standards of technical quality within the bodyshop. The role reports to the Bodyshop Manager and involves a 45‑hour week in a fast‑growing automotive repair environment.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the operational workshop loading system in line with company policy, meeting targets and deadlines.
• Liaise with office logistics to monitor vehicle intake and ensure optimal resource utilisation.
• Deliver exceptional customer service throughout the repair process.
• Champion health and safety, managing personal protective equipment and flagging risks.
• Monitor and control workshop output and efficiencies, keeping material wastage within target.
• Value vehicles at market rate and ensure no customer vehicle or contents are damaged or lost.

Required profile

• Solid understanding of the repair industry, vehicle legislation and trade practice.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations, including EPA provisions and risk assessment.
• Confident computer literacy.
• Natural leadership and coaching ability.
• Strong knowledge of repair processes and vehicle construction.
• Ability to stay calm and effective under pressure.
