Audit & Accounts Senior / Semi‑Senior

About the role

We are seeking an Audit & Accounts Senior / Semi‑Senior to join a successful independent accountancy firm in Birmingham. The role involves planning, leading and delivering high‑quality audit services to corporate clients while supporting partners, managers and junior team members.

Key responsibilities

• Support partners and managers in delivering audit, compliance and advisory services.
• Plan, execute and supervise audit assignments on‑site or remotely, liaising with clients for information.
• Identify audit risks, technical matters and key completion points, escalating issues as needed.
• Prepare audit files, working papers, statutory accounts and completion documentation.
• Assist with higher‑level technical audit, accounts and compliance work.
• Monitor progress and quality of assignments against budgets and deadlines.
• Record chargeable time accurately and support recovery targets.
• Coach and supervise trainees, reviewing their work.
• Finalize paperwork for clients and HMRC, ensuring deadlines are met.
• Manage ad‑hoc projects and undertake CPD activities.

Required profile

• ACA or ACCA qualified with significant audit, accounts and financial reporting experience in a UK accountancy practice.
• Strong audit planning, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• In‑depth knowledge of UK auditing standards, audit methodology and file completion requirements.
• Ability to work independently, supervise junior staff and communicate effectively with clients.
