Charity Head of Finance (Part‑time)

About the role
We are seeking an experienced, values‑driven Head of Finance to lead the financial management and reporting of a charitable organisation. This senior position provides strategic and operational oversight, supporting the Head of Business Support, the Treasurer, senior managers and Trustees with accurate, timely, and insightful financial information.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records and accounts, monitor performance against budgets and highlight variances.
- Oversee banking arrangements, insurance, payroll processes and service agreements.
- Manage VAT records and ensure timely submission of quarterly VAT returns.
- Prepare clear, accurate and timely financial reports for senior management and the Trustee Board.
- Provide financial analysis to support funding applications, contracts and service delivery.
- Support the preparation of statutory accounts and financial statements, working with the Treasurer and external auditors.
- Handle financial returns to funders, regulatory bodies and partner organisations.
- Identify Gift Aid opportunities and submit Gift Aid returns to HMRC.
- Lead the financial elements of funding bids and grant applications.
- Prepare and submit regular financial and progress reports for grant‑funded programmes.
Required profile
- A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in financial management and reporting within a charity or not‑for‑profit environment.
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a finance team.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Confidence presenting financial information to senior stakeholders.
