About the role

The Chief Engineer at Shield AI leads the technical effort to integrate advanced autonomy into unmanned weapon systems. This senior position oversees system architecture, design, risk mitigation, and product quality for Hivemind Autonomy solutions. The role reports within the Hivemind Solutions organization and manages a team of engineers delivering cutting‑edge capabilities for defense contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the Chief Engineer on Shield AI projects focused on developing and deploying autonomy solutions for unmanned weapon systems.
• Lead a team responsible for advancing Hivemind Autonomy and shaping defense autonomy architectures.
• Define and assign technical objectives, make key engineering decisions, and ensure the quality and completeness of all technical deliverables.
• Provide technical leadership and oversight across both Internal Research and Development (IRAD) initiatives and defense contracts.

Required profile

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of industry experience in autonomy and/or unmanned weapon systems.
• 7+ years delivering software into production or certifiable environments with high reliability.
• Customer‑facing engineering leadership supporting both defense and internally funded development programs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Guidance, navigation and control (GNC) concepts.
• Robotics stack including controls, estimation, perception, and planning.
• Software development processes and deployment in high‑reliability environments.
• Technical scope definition, requirements management, product architecture, and ICD documentation.
