Clinical Pharmacist – Alexandra Hospital

About the role

The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle is seeking a qualified Clinical Pharmacist to join its Pharmacy Department. This full‑time, permanent position involves a flexible shift pattern and provides an opportunity to contribute to patient safety and medication optimisation within a leading private healthcare provider.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct medication reviews for in‑patients and out‑patients, identifying interactions, contraindications and optimisation opportunities.
• Provide tailored advice to patients on treatment plans, side‑effects, compliance and lifestyle considerations.
• Support safe prescribing through medication reconciliation, clinical screening and dose adjustment.
• Review and authorise prescriptions in line with clinical guidelines, formulary restrictions and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with procurement, stock control and pharmacy technicians to ensure medicine availability.
• Monitor and report medication incidents, near‑misses and adverse drug reactions according to hospital protocols and MHRA guidance.

Required profile

• Degree in pharmacy (MPharm, BSc or BPharm) and GPhC registration.
• Minimum two years post‑qualification experience in a clinical hospital pharmacy role.
• Strong knowledge of therapeutics, clinical guidelines and pharmaceutical legislation.
• Excellent communication and clinical decision‑making abilities.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic prescribing and medication administration systems (e.g., EPMA).
