Construction Contracts Legal Counsel

About the role

This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a major UK infrastructure organisation as a Construction Contracts Legal Counsel. Based in Birmingham with hybrid working, you will work on high‑profile transport projects, providing specialist legal support on NEC contracts and complex commercial arrangements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on high‑value NEC construction and infrastructure contracts.
• Support procurement, commercial and supply‑chain teams on major project work.
• Advise on contractual claims, disputes and risk allocation matters.
• Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements and funding arrangements.
• Manage external legal counsel where required and support key stakeholder decision‑making.

Required profile

• A qualified solicitor or barrister with strong construction and commercial contracts experience.
• Proven experience advising on NEC contracts within infrastructure, construction or major‑project environments.
• Background in either in‑house legal teams or private practice supporting large UK projects.
• Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships across commercial and procurement functions.
• Experience handling contractual claims, procurement and risk‑management matters.
