Criminal Duty Solicitor – 1+ PQE, Manchester

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Criminal Duty Solicitor to join our established criminal defence practice in Manchester. This full‑time position offers a varied caseload, exposure to both Magistrates' and Crown Court work, and participation in a duty solicitor rota.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a diverse portfolio of criminal defence matters.
• Attend police stations and represent clients at Magistrates' Court hearings.
• Assist senior colleagues with Crown Court cases.
• Participate in the duty solicitor rota, including out‑of‑hours call‑outs.
• Provide timely, practical legal advice while maintaining high standards of client care.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with a minimum of 1 year post‑qualification experience.
• Current Duty Solicitor Accreditation is essential.
• Proven experience handling criminal defence matters and confidence appearing in police stations and courts.
• Strong advocacy, communication and client‑care abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and maintain attention to detail.
