Defendant Clinical Negligence Associate/Senior Associate

About the role

We are seeking a Defendant Clinical Negligence Associate or Senior Associate to join a leading international law firm’s Healthcare team in Birmingham. The role involves working on complex, high-profile clinical negligence matters for NHS bodies, insurers and private healthcare providers.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a diverse caseload of defendant clinical negligence claims from instruction to resolution, including litigation.
• Provide advice on liability, causation and quantum for high-value claims.
• Assist with inquests, judicial review proceedings and related regulatory matters.
• Deliver clear, strategic and commercially focused advice to a broad client base.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships through regular contact and high-quality service.
• Contribute to business development by attending client events and supporting relationship growth.
• Collaborate with a national team of specialists to share expertise and best practice.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (NQ+) or CILEX qualification with relevant experience.
• Previous experience in clinical negligence work, preferably on the defendant side (claimant experience also considered).
• Strong understanding of litigation processes and healthcare-related legal issues.
• Interest in healthcare law and a desire to build a long-term career in this sector.
