Deputy Chef – Part‑time (27 hrs/week)

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Deputy Chef to support the Head Cook at Yardley Grange Nursing Home in Birmingham. Working 27 hours per week on a permanent basis, you will help deliver high‑quality meals for our residents and catering events while maintaining a safe, clean kitchen environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals for residents and special catering events.
• Assist with food preparation tasks such as chopping, marinating, and measuring ingredients.
• Set up and organise the kitchen workspace before cooking sessions.
• Follow recipes and instructions provided by the Head Cook.
• Monitor food temperatures to ensure safety and quality standards.
• Clean and sanitise work areas, utensils and equipment after each use.
• Store food correctly to preserve freshness.
• Manage kitchen staff, conduct supervisions and appraisals, and prepare rotas.
• Order stock and ingredients and maintain inventory records.
• Carry out audits to ensure legal compliance of the kitchen.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a kitchen or culinary environment.
• Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced setting and handle multiple tasks.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
• Good communication skills and teamwork orientation.
• Experience with IDDSI guidelines is a plus.
