Deputy Headteacher (SEND) – South East London

About the role
We are looking for an experienced Deputy Headteacher to support the Headteacher of a SEND‑specialist school in South East London. The role will help drive high‑quality teaching, improve outcomes for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, and contribute to the school’s strategic development.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the Headteacher in setting and delivering the school’s strategic vision.
- Lead curriculum development and oversee teaching and learning across all year groups.
- Monitor pupil progress, analyse data and implement improvement plans.
- Support safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and pupil wellbeing initiatives.
- Line‑manage staff, organise professional development and mentor teachers.
- Build strong partnerships with parents, carers and external agencies.
- Act as Headteacher in their absence.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Significant experience in a SEND school or specialist provision.
- Proven senior or middle‑leadership experience.
- Deep knowledge of SEND legislation, EHCPs and inclusive practice.
- Track record of improving teaching, learning and pupil outcomes.
- Excellent communication, resilience and collaborative approach.
Required skills
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
