About the role
Amazon is seeking a Regional VAT Manager based in London (with possible relocation to Luxembourg) to lead VAT planning and compliance initiatives across the EMEA consumer retail business, primarily focusing on France while supporting broader Pan‑EU projects. The role involves close collaboration with local business partners and the tax department, providing expert VAT advice and handling complex audit and controversy matters.
Key responsibilities
- Provide in‑depth VAT technical advice on French and cross‑border VAT matters, evaluating business initiatives, transactions and proposals.
- Support highly complex audit and controversy projects, exercising sound judgement under tight timelines.
- Assist the VAT Compliance Team on strategic technical topics (not day‑to‑day compliance).
- Coordinate planning, real‑time communication and delivery of tax‑related projects with business partners.
- Draft documentation to support analyses, decisions and conclusions for reporting and compliance purposes.
- Manage audit and controversy matters, engage proactively with tax authorities and prepare responses to queries.
- Collaborate with Finance, Legal and Accounting teams to support new business launches and ongoing operations across the Pan‑EU retail business.
- Communicate complex VAT concepts clearly to non‑tax professionals and maintain strong stakeholder networks.
Required profile
- Experience in a large public accounting firm or multinational corporate tax department.
- Demonstrable VAT advisory experience with a global consulting firm, law firm or blue‑chip commercial organisation.
- Ability to analyse statutes, regulations and case law, extract relevant data and make appropriate recommendations.
- Detail‑oriented, well‑organised, with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Strategic thinker capable of managing tax, finance, accounting and business stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel regularly to Paris, sometimes on short notice.
Required skills
What we offer
