Finance Business Partner – Fixed-Term (6 months)

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Business Partner to join a public sector organisation undergoing a significant programme of finance improvement and transformation. The role is suited to a qualified accountant with strong technical finance expertise and stakeholder management experience in the public sector.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a trusted adviser to budget holders and operational managers, providing financial insight, challenge and support for decision‑making.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities and deliver clear, accurate, timely financial information.
• Produce monthly management accounts, prepare and post journals, complete balance‑sheet reconciliations and manage accruals, pre‑payments and deferred income.
• Review and improve end‑to‑end finance processes, simplify and standardise ways of working, and reduce reliance on manual spreadsheet‑based reporting.
• Strengthen financial controls, governance arrangements and develop robust finance procedures and working papers.
• Support optimisation of finance systems and reporting tools and contribute to finance transformation initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIPFA or CIMA).
• Previous experience working within the public sector (e.g., local government, NHS, education, housing or central government).
• Proven experience in a Finance Business Partner, Management Accountant or similar role.
• Strong management accounting, budgeting and forecasting experience.
