Financial Controller – London Market Insurance

About the role

A leading London Market insurer is looking for a senior Financial Controller to lead the Financial Accounting & Reporting function. Reporting to the CFO, you will shape the finance control framework, ensure high-quality reporting and support strategic decisions across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, variance analysis and financial commentary.
• Present monthly results to senior finance and executive committees.
• Oversee month-end close, financial ledgers and core accounting controls.
• Take ownership of insurance and reinsurance accounting, including debtor and creditor reconciliations.
• Prepare statutory accounts under FRS 102 and FRS 103.
• Manage external audit delivery and act as the primary finance contact for auditors.
• Produce quarterly IFRS 17 results for head‑office reporting and support IFRS 17 conversion of business plans.
• Collaborate with actuarial teams on reserving, IBNR and technical provisions.
• Oversee Solvency UK and other regulatory submissions.
• Maintain a strong internal control framework and contribute to finance transformation projects.
• Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing finance team.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with significant post‑qualification experience in financial reporting and control.
• Strong background in insurance or the London Market.
• Good knowledge of IFRS, IFRS 17 and Solvency UK.
• Experience working with actuarial teams and handling regulatory reporting.
• Confident communicator able to present to senior stakeholders.
• Proven leadership with a collaborative, improvement‑focused approach.
