Fleet Compliance Officer – Birmingham City Council

About the role

This temporary, full‑time position supports Birmingham City Council’s fleet operations by ensuring all vehicles meet legal, regulatory and organisational standards. You will work on‑site, conducting audits, maintaining records and advising operational teams on compliance matters.

Key responsibilities

• Perform regular compliance and audit checks on the council’s vehicle fleet.
• Maintain accurate vehicle documentation, including licences, inspections and tachograph records.
• Monitor statutory obligations such as Driver CPC requirements, maintenance schedules and Working Time Directive regulations.
• Develop, track and report on compliance KPIs, analysing audit outcomes to identify risks and trends.
• Provide guidance on fleet legislation, produce detailed reports for senior management and recommend corrective actions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in compliance, audit or fleet management within transport or public‑sector environments.
• Strong knowledge of transport legislation, regulatory requirements and audit methodologies.
• Ability to produce clear, actionable reports and present findings to diverse stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Self‑motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities in an on‑site setting.
