Head of Commissioning (NHS Integrated)

About the role

This is a joint NHS‑funded senior position leading a commissioning team focused on older and frail residents in Southwark. The role reports to the Assistant Director for Integrated Commissioning and works across Southwark Council, the wider health system and Partnership Southwark.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a commissioning team delivering a complex programme of work for older, frail and physically disabled residents.
• Build and sustain relationships with the Council, NHS, voluntary sector and other local partners to shape public‑health commissioning.
• Take stock of current commissioning arrangements, engage with Public Health Consultants, Heads of Programme and Policy Officers, and develop a division‑wide commissioning plan.
• Coordinate delivery of high‑quality public‑health services, aiming to reduce health inequalities and generate value for Southwark residents.
• Attend occasional evening and weekend meetings and events across the borough as required.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience working in the NHS or an integrated commissioning function.
• Proven experience managing NHS Continuing Health Care (CHC) teams and Better Care Fund (BCF) initiatives, including proposal development and reporting to NHS England.
• Experience commissioning for older, frail or physically disabled populations within a local authority setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively across council, health system and partnership organisations.
