Head of Finance – Birmingham Museums Trust

About the role

The Birmingham Museums Trust is seeking a Head of Finance to lead its finance function. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will ensure accurate, timely reporting, maintain strong controls and provide strategic insight to support the Trust’s ambitious cultural mission.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the finance team, providing direction, coaching and support.
• Oversee monthly management accounts and coordinate month‑end and year‑end reporting.
• Ensure robust financial controls and compliance with statutory, regulatory and Charity Commission requirements.
• Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with senior stakeholders.
• Maintain financial forecasts, support scenario planning and monitor organisational budgets.
• Analyse financial performance, investigate variances and deliver recommendations for investment and operational decisions.
• Build and maintain relationships with auditors, banks and external advisers.
• Drive continuous improvement of finance processes and systems.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Finance Manager or senior finance leader, ready to step into a Head of Finance role.
• Strong analytical ability and experience providing strategic financial insight.
• Experience working within a charity or public sector environment is desirable.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership.
