Head of Labs – Data Science, AI, LLMs, Agentic AI & Innovation (Remote, Travel)

About the role

We are seeking a visionary Head of Labs to lead our Data Science, AI and emerging technology initiatives. The role is primarily remote, with occasional travel to our London office, and offers the freedom to work from anywhere in the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the strategic roadmap for AI, LLMs, SLMs and agentic AI research.
• Build, mentor and expand a high‑performing multidisciplinary team.
• Manage third‑party development and data partners at scale.
• Oversee product backlog, user story creation and sprint delivery in an Agile environment.
• Ensure compliance with strict governance and regulatory frameworks.
• Track KPIs, analyse performance and communicate insights to senior stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in data‑driven or AI‑focused organisations.
• Strong stakeholder management with a track record of navigating complex, regulated environments.
• Resilience and ability to turn setbacks into successful outcomes.
• Experience managing large development and data teams, both internal and external.

Required skills

• Agile product ownership (SAFe or similar frameworks).
• Backlog management and sprint planning.
• Scrum leadership and daily stand‑up facilitation.
• KPI definition, tracking and reporting.
