Head of Planning (Partner) – Birmingham

About the role

The Legists, a nationally recognised law firm, is seeking an experienced Planning Partner to lead its Birmingham planning team. This senior position offers genuine autonomy to shape and grow the practice across the Midlands while working alongside specialist real‑estate, construction and environmental teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the firm’s planning offering for Birmingham and the wider Midlands.
• Advise a diverse client base on planning applications, strategic land, Section 106 and highways agreements, compulsory purchase, judicial review and major regeneration projects.
• Drive business development and generate new work for the practice.
• Mentor junior lawyers and support their professional growth.
• Implement the firm’s strategic growth plans for the planning team.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with a proven track record in complex planning matters.
• Established network within the Midlands planning market.
• Experience leading or managing a planning team, or ambition to step into a partnership leadership role.
• Demonstrated ability to win work and build long‑term client relationships.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of UK planning law and related agreements.
• Experience handling Section 106, compulsory purchase and judicial review cases.
• Strong commercial awareness of real‑estate and construction sectors.
