Health & Safety Officer – Environmental Compliance Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a Health & Safety Officer to join our London office, working on both environmental and occupational health and safety initiatives. This full‑time, temporary‑to‑permanent position offers a rate of £22.52 per hour (£41,000 annualised) and is based near Kennington/Elephant & Castle.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and update the Environmental Management System (EMS) in line with ISO 14001 and UK environmental legislation.
• Lead or support environmental audits, waste and recycling programmes, carbon reporting and sustainable procurement.
• Maintain the environmental aspects and impacts register and manage incident investigations.
• Support the creation, review and communication of Health and Safety policies, procedures and risk assessments.
• Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and compliance training (e.g., DSE, lone working, fire safety).
• Assist the EHS Manager with site inspections, emergency drills and statutory compliance (RIDDOR, PUWER, COSHH).
• Maintain safety records, contribute to EHS metrics, dashboards and service‑desk reporting.
• Provide EHS input to projects, contracts and procurement as required.

Required profile

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Health & Safety or a related discipline.
• Demonstrable experience in an environmental or combined EHS role.
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 and UK environmental legislation (waste, energy, hazardous materials, water).
• Familiarity with Health and Safety regulations (HASAWA 1974, COSHH, RIDDOR).
