Interim Operations Manager – Environmental Health (Hybrid)

About the role

This interim position leads a newly created Environmental Health service for a large public sector organisation. Working hybrid with at least two days on site, you will shape frontline public‑realm services during a period of significant change.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the new Local Investigations Team, establishing systems, processes and performance frameworks.
• Design referral pathways, escalation routes and operating procedures for multi‑service responses.
• Collaborate with Environmental Health, Waste, Highways, Parking Enforcement and other departments to improve service delivery.
• Handle councillor enquiries, community concerns and high‑profile incidents.
• Review and transform the existing Pest Control Service, evaluating structure, workflow, prioritisation and procurement options.
• Develop performance measures and evaluation frameworks to inform future delivery models.
• Provide leadership, coaching and support to operational teams.
• Support the Head of Environmental Health on strategic priorities and service improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Significant management experience within Environmental Health or related public‑sector services.
• Proven ability to design and implement operational frameworks.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, including elected members and partner organisations.
• Strategic thinker who can also deliver hands‑on service improvements.
