Investigations Officer – Higher Education Governance

About the role
This role supports a leading London‑based university within its Governance, Legal Services and Compliance function. You will manage student complaints, appeals, disciplinary and Fitness to Practise investigations, ensuring fairness, transparency and compliance with university regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Independently manage a caseload of investigations, planning scope, evidence requirements and timelines.
- Gather, review and critically assess evidence, producing balanced, evidence‑based findings and high‑quality reports.
- Provide expert guidance to academic schools, professional services and senior stakeholders throughout investigations.
- Maintain secure, auditable case records and support formal hearings and appeals.
- Coach colleagues, deliver training and contribute to the development of investigation standards and policies.
Required profile
- Experience working within a UK Higher Education environment.
- Proven track record managing complex investigations, complaints, appeals or disciplinary processes.
- Strong analytical ability to make impartial, evidence‑based decisions.
- Excellent stakeholder management and relationship‑building skills.
- Formal investigation training is highly desirable.
