Java Software Engineer

About the role

Jacobs is expanding its UK Digital & Data team and is looking for experienced Java Software Engineers to design and deliver high‑performance back‑end services for critical projects across water, transportation, defence and government sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and deliver scalable back‑end services and APIs using modern Java best practices.
• Optimise application performance through multi‑threading and concurrency techniques.
• Collaborate with agile teams—including product owners, architects and QA engineers—to ensure high‑quality software delivery.
• Utilise cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS and integrate data storage solutions for scalable service delivery.
• Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews and agile ceremonies.

Required profile

• Proven Java development expertise (Java 8+, 11, 17, 21) and strong object‑oriented design skills.
• Deep knowledge of multi‑threading, concurrency and performance optimisation.
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and automated testing frameworks (JUnit).
• Ability to deliver robust, scalable solutions within agile teams.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset and enthusiasm for continuous learning.
