Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning

About the role

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Manchester is expanding its AI & Machine Learning research group. We are seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to develop a world‑leading research portfolio and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and conduct original, internationally recognised research in AI/ML.
• Establish and nurture national and international research collaborations.
• Secure substantial grant funding to support research activities.
• Deliver and enhance teaching programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Mentor PhD students and junior researchers.

Required profile

• PhD (or equivalent industrial experience) in Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning.
• Strong record of high‑quality publications in top AI/ML venues (e.g., ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, AAAI).
• Demonstrated ability to obtain research funding and manage projects (desirable).
• Enthusiastic, self‑motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a dynamic research team.
