Legal Counsel – Litigation (Fixed‑Term)

About the role
As a Legal Counsel specializing in litigation, you will provide high‑quality legal advice within a complex, regulated environment. You will act as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, supporting sound decision‑making, compliance, and the company’s commercial and strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Manage litigation matters, including issuing claims, handling defenses, and overseeing enforcement actions.
- Conduct insolvency proceedings, creditor services, and related matters.
- Draft and file legal documents such as letters before claim, defenses, witness statements, settlement agreements, statutory demands, and winding‑up petitions.
- Communicate with third parties and opposing counsel on a without‑prejudice basis.
- Assess liability and quantum, prepare reports, and advise the business.
- Make and respond to without‑prejudice offers, negotiate settlements under supervision.
- Provide legal analysis and strategic advice to the legal team and wider business.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal governance frameworks.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts related to the sales business.
- Represent the organization before authorities, courts, and supervisory bodies.
- Manage external counsel to ensure cost‑effective delivery.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of legal processes and operational practices.
Required profile
- Qualified solicitor with post‑qualification experience in practice.
- Strong expertise in civil procedure rules, debt recovery, and breach‑of‑contract litigation.
- Good knowledge of contract law and experience drafting commercial contracts.
- Analytical ability to assess debtor financial situations and recommend recovery strategies.
- Proven capability to manage complex legal matters independently.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to translate legal concepts into clear business advice.
- Effective communicator with strong stakeholder‑management and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
