Maternity Support Worker – NHS Trust

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Maternity Support Worker to join our team at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. You will work closely with registered midwives and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide high‑quality, patient‑focused care for mothers and newborns.

Key responsibilities

• Communicate sensitively with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team.
• Assist midwives in delivering safe, consistent care under Trust guidelines.
• Perform blood tests on mothers and babies and support ordering of laboratory investigations.
• Provide administrative support, including ordering blood tests and managing equipment supplies.
• Maintain a clean and safe clinical environment, restocking and ordering equipment as needed.
• Utilise IT systems, including the HIVE platform, for documentation and communication.

Required profile

• Compassionate and caring attitude with strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under supervision of registered midwives and follow Trust protocols.
• Willingness to learn and develop through the Support Worker Development Programme.
• Commitment to delivering patient‑centred care in a busy maternity setting.

Required skills

• Blood testing for mothers and newborns.
• Use of HIVE IT system for clinical documentation.
• Basic administrative tasks such as ordering laboratory tests and equipment.
• Cleaning and maintaining clinical environments.
