Mechanical Turner / Manual Machinist – £20.50‑£22 per hour

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Turner / Manual Machinist to join our workshop team in Manchester. The role involves hands‑on turning and machining of components using conventional lathes, producing high‑quality parts to engineering specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate conventional/manual lathes and related workshop equipment.
• Turn and machine components accurately from drawings, samples or patterns.
• Measure and inspect parts using micrometers, verniers, gauges and other precision tools.
• Interpret engineering drawings, limits, fits and tolerances.
• Carry out repair and refurbishment of mechanical components.
• Identify machining requirements and apply engineering judgement to resolve issues.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised work environment.
• Occasionally perform on‑site work at customer locations.

Required profile

• Recognised apprenticeship or relevant qualification in mechanical engineering.
• Proven experience in manual turning and machining.
• Strong understanding of engineering measurements, tolerances, limits and fits.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Manual turning and lathe operation.
• Use of precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, gauges).
• Interpretation of engineering drawings.
• Repair and refurbishment of mechanical components.
