Primary SENDCO – Full‑time role in Portsmouth

About the role
We are seeking an experienced SENCo to lead the SEND provision in a large primary school in Portsmouth. The school has a specialised SEN unit for pupils with autism and other additional needs, offering a structured and nurturing environment. This full‑time position will work closely with senior leaders, teachers, families and external agencies to ensure high‑quality support for every pupil.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, implement and continuously improve the school’s SEND strategy and policies.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, teaching staff and external agencies to coordinate support for pupils with autism and other SEND needs.
- Monitor pupil progress, drive inclusive practice and ensure statutory responsibilities are met.
- Lead the SEND team, providing guidance, training and professional development.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo) or willingness to work towards it.
- Proven experience as a SENCo or in a SEND leadership role.
- Strong understanding of autism and effective support strategies.
- Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills.
- Genuine passion for improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
