Principal Machine Learning Engineer – Matching & Recommendations

About the role

Bumble is seeking a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to lead the AI and ML strategy behind its matching, recommendation, and personalization systems. You will shape high‑impact models that improve user engagement and safety across Bumble’s suite of products.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical roadmap for recommendation, ranking, and personalization models, delivering measurable business outcomes.
• Design, develop, and ship production‑grade models using frameworks such as PyTorch, ensuring scalability in high‑traffic environments.
• Build AI agents powered by raw and fine‑tuned Large Language Models (LLMs) and integrate them with sub‑agents, tools, and MCP services.
• Architect end‑to‑end ML pipelines that combine data processing (e.g., Spark, Airflow) with training, evaluation, and deployment workflows.
• Lead experimentation frameworks, including A/B testing and offline evaluation, to continuously improve model performance.

Required profile

• 10–15 years of experience in machine learning or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
• Proven track record building and deploying large‑scale ML systems in production.
• Strong Python proficiency and deep knowledge of at least one major ML framework (PyTorch or TensorFlow).
• Experience designing scalable data pipelines with Spark, Airflow, or similar distributed tools.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor senior engineers and influence technical strategy without direct authority.
