Product Psychologist (AI Mental Health)

About the role

Slingshot AI is building Ash, the first AI designed for mental health, and is looking for a Product Psychologist to define what a great Ash conversation looks like and how to measure it. Reporting to the Clinical R&D Lead and working closely with the machine‑learning conversation team, you will translate clinical quality into actionable benchmarks for the ML models.

Key responsibilities

• Own the definition of “great” for Ash conversations and turn it into measurable criteria.
• Make hypothesis‑driven decisions about Ash’s behavior globally and in specific scenarios, and revise them quickly when evidence changes.
• Partner with the Safety team to set Ash’s constraints and manage difficult edge‑case dialogues.
• Recruit, scale, and coach a distributed team of human reviewers, establishing standards, training them on “great” conversations, and keeping the group calibrated.
• Provide clarity to the conversation and ML teams when the path forward is ambiguous.

Required profile

• PhD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology (or a license‑eligible Master’s with clinical training and supervision).
• Experienced clinician who has worked with technological systems to scale engaging health products.
• Hands‑on expertise in interpersonal skills, able to facilitate emotional expression and recognize warmth, honesty, confidence, and attunement in others.
• Pragmatic and decisive under uncertainty, able to make and defend decisions with incomplete information and pivot when new evidence appears.
• User‑oriented mindset, avoiding agendas that outweigh the needs of product users.
• Background in measurement, preferably in digital mental health, with experience building rating systems and calibrating reviewer teams.
• Comfort operating alongside an ML team and curiosity about how evaluations and benchmarks influence model behavior.
