Public Law Solicitor (NQ-2) – Birmingham

About the role

The Legists are seeking a qualified solicitor with up to two years post‑qualification experience to join their award‑winning Public Law & Regulation team in Birmingham. This full‑time position offers exposure to high‑profile public law matters across a range of sectors, providing a solid foundation for a specialist legal career.

Key responsibilities

• Assist senior lawyers on contentious and non‑contentious public law matters, including judicial review and statutory appeals.
• Research and draft opinions on constitutional, administrative and human rights law.
• Support legislative drafting, regulatory compliance and enforcement projects for central government departments and regulated bodies.
• Liaise with clients in sectors such as energy, healthcare, education, water and life sciences.
• Travel occasionally to London and client offices as required.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with up to 2 years PQE.
• Strong academic record and analytical ability.
• Genuine interest in public law and regulation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Enthusiasm for collaborative work and delivering commercially focused advice.

Required skills

• Legal research and analysis.
• Drafting of judicial review applications, statutory appeals and legislative material.
• Understanding of constitutional, administrative and human rights principles.
