Research Engineer in Data

About the role

The Data team at Synthesia manages the full lifecycle of data for researchers, from sourcing and large‑scale processing to delivering datasets that power AI models. This position sits at the intersection of applied research, data engineering, and ML infrastructure, working with over a million hours of video and audio data.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain a human‑centric data lake that serves model training teams.
• Extract new features and annotations to improve dataset quality and model performance.
• Enhance existing data pipelines and infrastructure, and help shape long‑term data strategy.
• Collaborate closely with model training engineers to understand and meet their data requirements.

Required profile

• Strong background in data‑centric, applied Machine Learning with hands‑on experience improving model performance through data quality, curation, labeling, and evaluation.
• Experience working on the data layer of Generative AI products, especially with images, video, or audio.
• Excellent Python programming skills, focusing on clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code.
