Sanctions Legal Counsel – Director, Structured Finance

About the role

We are seeking a senior Sanctions Legal Counsel to join our Structured Finance Legal Division in London. The role sits within a collaborative legal team that advises the EMEA region of a leading banking group on sanctions, financial crime and related regulatory matters.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact on sanctions and financial‑crime issues across the EMEA region.
• Advise senior stakeholders on the impact of UK, EU (and where relevant US) sanctions regimes on corporate strategy and risk appetite.
• Lead cross‑departmental projects involving legal, compliance, risk, business and operations teams.
• Interpret and apply sanctions legislation to banking, finance and capital‑markets products.
• Support the development of policies and procedures to mitigate sanctions‑related risk.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer (or equivalent legal qualification) with at least 6 years post‑qualification experience.
• Proven experience working with senior legal, compliance and business stakeholders.
• Solid background in sanctions and financial‑crime matters within a financial‑services firm, corporate environment or reputable law firm.
• Strong understanding of banking, finance and capital‑markets products.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
